Economics is precise because of Maths, says Prof John Binze

“Maths is precise, so precision is very much used in economics,” said John Binze, Associate Professor of Mathematics. Speaking at the inauguration of the Economics Forum on Tuesday at SJC, he added that Maths started being used more extensively for Economics with the advent of Game Theory in the 1940s.

Fr William Marcel Rodrigues, Vice-Principal (Arrupe Block), Prof Clement D’Souza, H.O.D of Economics and Prof Keshavamurthy, Welfare Officer inaugurated the forum. Prof Binze talked about the importance of the relationship between Maths and Economics in a lecture titled ‘Marriage of Maths and Economics and the love story continues.’

“For this academic year we have listed a number of events in the coming three-four months. The forum is one of the oldest associations in the college, inaugurated in 2002,” said Prof Keshavmurthy. The Economics Forum has Sharmistha III EPS as President, Arvind III IES as Vice President and four other office-bearers responsible for workshops and seminars.
