Why Choose Political Science for Postgraduate Study ?
Politics affects every sphere of research and hence requires in depth understanding. The Department of Political Science provides impetus to three key areas of the subject – Theory/Thought, Public Administration and International Relations/Foreign Policy. By specializing in these areas, researchers will gain key insight into understanding the rapidly changing global security environment in the 21st Century.

Unique Assessment Process
Internal - Students will be writing one midterm examination for 30 marks. The question paper will be choice based, subjective and will cover the discussion points of the classroom lectures. This exercise will enable a researcher to develop their comprehension skills.

Students have to write an assignment on each paper for 10 marks. The assignments will be diverse and innovative ranging from write-ups (1000 word) to research papers (5000-6000 words); book reviews (2000 words); country profiles and written debates that will help develop an argument for or against an issue.

Students will have to follow the research manual of the department on all assignments. The attempt here is to develop a student’s writing and analytical skills through a rigorous research exercise.

Students will have to make a presentation in the department for 10 marks. The presentation will be a summary of their written assignment which will be evaluated by the faculty of the department and two external examiners. Each presentation will be followed by a rigourous question and answer session which will help add further value to the researcher’s paper. The attempt is to assist students to develop their presentation skills.

Training on the good practices and etiquettes of organizing and presenting papers in seminars is provided to students every Saturday.

External - Students will write an end semester exam for 50 marks. The question paper will follow the same format as above.

Institutional Collaboration
The Department of Political Science endeavours to draw faculty from well known universities and colleges in the world. In addition to its core faculty, the Department is taking initiatives to invite visiting faculty from well known think tanks across India.

Job Opportunities
After completing the course, job opportunities would be available in the form of in research positions at various think tanks.

The Department will make a modest attempt to provide deserving students with employment opportunities to conduct research through internships at top think tanks across India.

Job profiles ranging from analysts and strategic affairs editor in print and visual media and risk analysts/managers in corporate institutions is also available. The course is also a launch pad for students to enter the Indian Bureaucracy through the civil services examination.

Students will also be encouraged to become political decision makers, academicians at reputed teaching institutions and serve the larger society by joining non-governmental organizations
