Tableau Escobar coming to SJC

A new addition, ‘Tableau Escobar’, where people come in and present a scripted tableau based on a television series, film or book, is headed for Metonym 2018.

Metonym, the intra-collegiate literature fest hosted by the Literary Society of the Department of English, was inaugurated on Thursday at SJC. The theme is ‘Fire in the tongue,’ which celebrates traditions of food and history along with writing for food. The idea is inspired by current politics as we live in a time where food sparks politics.

Metonym began in 2015 with an aim to make a co-curricular extension and writing fun for students. It focuses on finding a talent with its emphasis on writing but is also related to art, speaking, news-making and quizzes. “We have 27 events in all which shall resume without disrupting the academic calendar,” said Dr Arul Mani, co-coordinator of Metonym.

There will be an overall trophy for the class holding the top position based on the scoreboard. Michael Kratin, a poet from the US, will address the students in a workshop on writing poetry and writing about poetry.
