SJC offers 3 courses in film-making

The Department of Communication is offering three specialised certification courses called ‘The SJC FastTrack’ for those who are passionate and creative about film-making from August 15.

‘The SJC FastTrack’ course is open for all UG and PG students of St Joseph’s College, and there is no pre-qualification required to apply for it. The course offers three papers called Language of Cinema, Video Production, and Film Editing. It is co-ordinated by Prof Marudhu Pandian, Prof Avishek Suman, and Prof Nevil D’Souza, respectively.

“Our intention is to help students in other courses and outsiders to learn film-making so that they can get the knowledge from basics and design their own portfolios. They can also join industry or go for higher studies on the same lines,” said Nevil D’Souza, Department of Communication.

‘The SJC FastTrack’ is a three-credit course across a year, offering 90 hours. The fee structure for the three sub-courses is as follows: Rs.4,500 for Language of Cinema and Rs.5,500 for Video Production and Film Editing for SJC students. SJC has also extended an opportunity to students from other colleges interested in the sub-courses. Students from other colleges will have to pay an extra Rs 1000 for each sub-course. Students can apply for only one track at a time.

“It is a good opportunity for all the students who are interested in film making and also to earn credits through this course, as the syllabus demands each student to earn 5 credits per year,” said Avishek Suman, Department of Communication.

“We have planned to conduct the classes after college hours after 5 pm, Saturdays and Sundays tentatively,” he added. Industry experts will be invited to add value to the courses and also the students will be recommended to the profesional industry if their work is good.
