IGNITORS programme in SJC next week

With the commencement of a new academic year, students of the SJC will be plunged nest week into IGNITORS, an integral formation programme. The third and fifth semester students will participate in this intense programme for three days from June 19-21. The programme aims at personality development, life skills coaching, social analysis, faith formation and value education.

The IGNITORS team consists of certified life skills and personality development trainers, university professors, human rights activists, etc. They will offer the under graduate students training in social analysis and soft skills this year. The training methodology will include lectures and seminars along with group activities and field visits. Case studies will be studied closely along with visual presentations and personality tests.

“In social analysis, we help students scrutinise the current social issues in our state as well the nation. Between 5- 7 lakh students have been trained under the IGNITORS programme so far,” said Dr Isaac C V, who also added that their vision is to initiate creative and critical thinking in order to persuade students to undertake committed and constructive actions.

IGNITORS, which was started in 2009 by the Karnataka Jesuit Educational Society, has been offering the integral formation workshops and sessions since 2011 across Karnataka. It is conducted in all Jesuit institutions across the state for pre-university, undergraduate and post graduate students.

The programmes offered to the third semester students include caste and gender discrimination, human trafficking, domestic violence and sexual harassment, youth and law etc. On the other hand the fifth semester students will be familiarised with programmes like love vs. infatuation, self- esteem and confidence building, creative and critical thinking, etc. Both the batches have eight programmes along with an outreach programme for the third semester students.

Classes will go on as usual for the post- graduate students next week. But the IGNITORS programme will be held for first semester undergraduate students and first and third semester post graduate students between June 28 and 30.
