Oikonomika: making Economics fun

Taboo, the game of unspeakable fun, along with many other events were conducted by the Economics Department . On Monday, the post-graduation department hosted their 9th edition of Oikonomika, an annual interdisciplinary fest. Students from colleges all over Bengaluru took part in the event.

Dr Krishanu Pradhan, Assistant Professor at Madras Institute of Developmental Studies was the chief guest for the event. He gave a talk on ‘Subsidy of role on bank credit, nationalization of minerals and resources transfer from Centre.’

The events included, ‘Oiko-Wizards’ - the monster of current affairs, ‘Devil’s Advocate’ - debating skills, and ‘Connect-O-nomics’ - puzzle game with an economics twist. ‘Taboo’ - the game of unspeakable fun and ‘Monopoly’ - the classic real-estate board game was brought to life.

“The purpose of the program was to teach the students skills rather than following theories and strategies. These events showcased the practical side of the subject. Every event was made fun and educational,” said Treesa Roy, Assistant Professor, Economics Department. The winners of every event were given cash prizes.

Christ (Deemed-to-be University), Bangalore, the institution with maximum number of participants and winners was awarded an overall championship trophy, and St Joseph’s College (Autonomous) won the second place. Candidates from leading colleges like Jyothi Nivas, Christ, Dayananda Sagar and Kristu Jayanti took part in the event.
