SJC pupils rally for Pulwama martyrs

The students of St Josephs College (Autonomous) on Wednesday, February 20, held a rally in honour of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel who were martyred in a terrorist attack in Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir on February 14. The rally was organised by the college’s Outreach and NSS departments in association with the Bangalore Traders Association.

The rally began near Cubbon Park and ended at Brigade Road, where the participants were joined by MLA NA Harris and some others. Over 200 people participated in the rally and attended the vigil held after. This was a collective effort by the students from the postgraduate and undergraduate sections from the college’s Department of Social Work They also distributed candles to the public, inviting them to be part of the vigil. The rally also included a display of banners and placards with slogans like “No war, Know Peace”, “We salute our martyrs”, “We are with the families of our brave jawans” and “We are with our soldiers.”.

Anjali IR, a postgraduate student from the college’s Social Work Department, said: “Instead of propagating violence and seeking revenge, we need to look along the lines of peace.” She added: “We now understand the risk and selfless sacrifice of our soldiers who protect us and whose safety we often take for granted. The least we can do is render our support to the families of the bravehearts of our country.”
