SJC student council members take office

The investiture ceremony for the St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous)student council and selected representatives was conducted at the college auditorium on Thursday. This student council marks the 70th batch of direct-elected councils in the college. Badges and sashes were handed over to student council members by chief guest Dr David Selvaraj, an alumnus of SJC, in the presence of Principal Fr. Victor Lobo and Governor Prof Joyce D’Souza.

Dr. Selvaraj, who graduated from SJC in 1971, said on the occasion, “It is an occasion where we will pass on the authority to a group of students and invite them to leaders for a period of time.” Talking about the importance of exercising power, he said, “When we talk about authority and leadership, we are talking about power. It is the exercise of power with and the discovery of power within that will lead to greater heights.”

Student council members from other colleges, including St Joseph’s Commerce College, Mount Carmel College, and CMS College were also present for the event. As the formal ceremo¬ny came to an end, the col¬lege choir team, an Indian dance team and a western dance team showcased pow¬er-packed performances.
