SJC visits varsities to learn from them

SJC is preparing itself for the University status by learning from prominent universities across the country. “The management has taken the university status very seriously and has formed various committees like the advisory board and an internal committee to guide us,“ said Dr Fr Victor Lobo, Principal of St Josephs College.

Fr Brian Pereira, Rector, said, “If we are going for the university status, let our university be a university with a difference. Let our university be a transformation centre where we transform individuals who transform society.” “Let us always be guided by Jesuit principles like academic excellence, social concern, character formation, and forming agents of change. Only through these principles can we achieve what we plan for our future," added Fr Brian. Seven committees were formed to survey prominent universities out of which only five could complete the survey. Universities like UOH, IIIT, VIT, TIFR, Christ University were some of the few campuses visited by the survey teams. Prof. Madappa M. B, Department of Biotechnology, representing one of the survey teams visiting VIT (Vellore institute not Technology) said, " Highlights of the University was the land space, due to which there was available space for the sports complex and different department centres. The facility also has 25,000 students out of which 72% of students are from outside the state. It also has 1000 international students on campus," added Mr Madappa. Prof. Christo Selvan V, Department of Commerce, who visited UOH, IIIT and TIFR said, "50%-60% of faculty in UOH are involved in research. 75% of the faculty at IIIT and 100% of faculty at TIFR. These are big numbers, TiFR is unique because every faculty there has a research project to work on."
