Dr. Swati Bandi is Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at St. Joseph’s College, Bangalore, India. Previously, she was Assistant Professor of Media Studies at Symbiosis School of Media & Communication, Bangalore, India. From 2010-2014, she worked as Instructor of Film and Media Studies in the Department of Art at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, USA. Dr. Bandi has a PhD in Transnational Studies with a focus in Gender and Media Studies as well as an M.F.A in Media Study from the University at Buffalo, the State University of New York, USA. She also has an M.A in Development Communication from the University of Hyderabad, India.

Dr. Bandi’s teaching and research interests span the fields of cultural and media studies, specializing in the study of media production, cultural policy and visual cultures in India. Her research examines the politics of empowerment in women's rights discourses, particularly the impact of market-driven policies and global/local media empowerment projects. Her writing has appeared in peer-reviewed academic publications as well as in magazines like FeministWire. In addition, Dr. Bandi is a documentary filmmaker whose films have screened in India and the United States.
