The Department of Zoology ever since its inception in 1957 is actively involved in teaching Zoology for
undergraduate degree courses in combination with other disciplines viz., Chemistry, Botany, Zoology
(CBZ); Microbiology, Chemistry, Zoology (MCZ); Chemistry, Environmental Science, Zoology (CEZ),
Chemistry, Zoology, Biotechnology (CZBT) and Biochemistry, Botany and Zoology (BBZ). The Faculty
unites the disciplines of General Zoology, Cell biology and Genetics, Human Anatomy- Physiology,
Developmental Biology, Ecology, Ethology and Evolutionary Biology. The Zoology Department has
several excellent teaching facilities including well-equipped laboratories with instruments like thermal
cycler, Insect culture facilities and Museum of specimens. The Department has ten faculty, two Associate
and eight Assistant professors. All courses are taught by lecture and practical work.
Co-curricular courses offered by the department include, choice based credit system- A Journey into
Animal world and Human life and certificate courses on “Urban ecology and pollution abatement
technologies” , “Biodiversity, Wildlife and Conservation biology” and “Entomology” . Students will
undertake a research project as part of certificate courses which can take place in the labs in the department
or out in the field. Graduates are working on a wide range of projects/internships in reputed research
institutions. The department encourages the popularization of science by conducting training and teaching
activities through the Natural Science Association (including Conferences/
Seminars/webinars/Workshops/lectures)
